Work Experience
Retail Sales Supervisor
  • I began part-time, February 2020. Six months later, the company promoted me to Sales Supervisor.
  • As supervisor, I train 10+ Sales Associates in the specifics of new collections, their fabrics, fit and silhouettes.
  • I work closely with all associates instilling ideas they can use to better assist the variety and needs of our customers. This training has directly increased our sales by 41% over last year.
  • This personal training occurs in both a group setting and individually on the floor (when I am the MOD) and my associates have questions or need assistance.
  • At the end of the day (managers rotate turns) I do all aspects required by the main headquarters in New York City to close out the store.
  • I am in charge of creating all of the opening daily reports. These reports include: all employees' break time, managers' segments to do MOD and the times and sections of the store needed to be covered by each associate to provide a greater customer service. The "Plan for the Week/Month" covers topics like Traffic, ADS, UPT, Conversion, and how many transactions associates need to generate per day (based on trends from last year). For closing procedures, I close and balance registers, count the Petty Cash from safe to confirm money is correct and make the deposit slip. Closing communications of the day, explain how the business plan for the day performed, discusses the store's UPT, ADS, highest and lowest hour of Conversion and what garments sold most and name our store's top three sales associates and their individual UPT and ADS numbers. Copies of these documents are emailed to both our store and regional managers. Before the store is locked for the night, associates who have stayed (after closing to the public) have been busy preparing the store for the next day's opening.
  • I assist with visual merchandising (when needed). Displays should have curb appeal and brand signature. As a way of engaging my Sales Associates, I came out with the idea for the "Look of the Week". To confirm my associates have brand knowledge, each Monday one associate is given the task of putting together an explaining an outfit for a character in a storyline I create.

When picking skills to feature in your resume, make sure they'll be relevant to the position you’re applying to. The point of listing skills is for you to stand out from the competition. Stay away from repetitive, meaningless skills that everyone uses in their resumes. Or else, they’ll backfire and make you look like an average candidate.

Formatting Your Retail Sales Specialist Resume

What’s worse than a .docx resume? A resume with a poorly chosen format.

In general, there are three basic resume formats we advise you to stick with:

Choosing between them is easy when you’re aware of your applicant profile – it depends on your years of experience, the position you’re applying for, and whether you’re looking for an industry change or not.

The reverse-chronological resume format is just that – all your relevant jobs in reverse-chronological order. It’s great for applicants with lots of experience, no career gaps, and little desire for creativity.

When working with less experienced applicants, we suggest the functional skills-based resume format. It’s great for recent graduates or people with large career gaps. Functional skills-based resumes focus on your personality, the skills you have, your interests, and your education. Ultimately, the idea is to show you’re the perfect fit without putting too much emphasis on your work experience (or lack thereof).

If you’re in the middle or are generally looking to make your resume feel more modern and personal, go for the combination or hybrid resume format. It offers the best of both worlds by combining sections focused on experience and work-related skills and at the same time keeping space for projects, awards, certifications, or even creative sections like ‘my typical day’ and ‘my words to live by’.

Retail Sales Specialist Resume Formatting Checklist

To take it a step further, check out how your resume can stand out without leaning too much on the creative side.

pro tip icon

Sometimes you’ll want to go after a job which requires more experience than you have. Instead of using a typical Retail Sales Specialist resume layout, you can use a creative layout. Getting noticed is the most important challenge and a creative resume layout might help you get invited for an interview as most of other accountants have boring resume designs.

Additional sections for your Retail Sales Specialist resume

In some cases, especially when it comes to entry-level positions, adding more sections beyond the usual ‘experience’, ‘skills’, and ‘education’ works well in your favor. Such additional sections will help you paint a fuller picture of who you are in the recruiter’s head.

Here’s a list of fun yet informative additional sections for your resume:

Making Your Retail Sales Specialist Resume Creative

We know too well that recruiters go through tons of resumes every day. The worse part is, they often need to hire people for different positions and teams. So how do you make yourself stand out in such cases?

By adding a dash of creativity to your Retail Sales Specialist resume. It can be in the form of a colorful layout, a section describing your typical day, or even a picture of your favorite book – you decide!

Just make sure that the levels of creativity match the industry, company, and position you’re applying for.
