By means of this letter, I would like to share with you ardent interest in applying for the VP Finance, Asia Pacific position at Cochlear. 

With 20 years of experience in finance and controllership in large US listed companies, I have successfully managed finance functions across the Asia Pacific and optimized business processes to help business achieve and accelerate revenue growth through systems transformation and innovative financial insights. I believe my skills and expertise would hence make me an ideal candidate for the job.  
Systems transformation, finance business partnering and team leadership have been my more competencies. For instance, in my prior capacity as a Director Finance at Oracle (APAC revenue $6.4BN), I led the development of the business partnering model leveraging onshore and offshore resources in supporting and closely engaging with business in closing several complex multi-million dollar deals with top tier customers in the APAC region. 

At Teradata too, I supported the spin off, NYSE listing, transformation and revenue growth in the APAC business from $200M to $270M by successfully building and scaling the revenue finance function for the APAC region. My role also significantly involved supporting business in commercially structuring large technology deals (direct and partner led) for top tier customers in the APAC region.

Finally, now, as the Finance Controller at ASC (SECOM), I lead the rollout of cloud ERP (MS Dynamics 365), migrating the mature start-up business from their legacy on-premise systems into the cloud (SaaS), introducing new financial reporting model and dashboard metrics / KPIs to support strategic business decision making. 
Leading people is my passion, I am skilled at inspirationally motivating teams to top performance and this is evidenced by multiple LinkedIn and 360 feedback reviews I have been fortunate to receive. 

Lastly, I have executed projects (finance, risk, credit and compliance) in several countries and possess tremendous international work experience across APAC & Japan. This has upskilled me in not only understanding and applying local commercial and compliance knowledge but also in effectively leveraging cultural sensitivities when working in a multi-cultural work environment.

I believe this role is an excellent opportunity for me to roll my sleeves up and contribute. What also attracts me to Cochlear is its leadership in the implantable hearing solution business, technological innovation, and above all, it’s mission to empower people to connect with others and live a full life, which is something I am very passionate about. The secret to making your CFO cover letter remarkable is to share your excitement about the company, the field, and the position.

It’s also a good idea to aim not to re-write your resume, but rather to build upon it and expand on your competencies.

Now, let's look at some other things that will make recruiters remember you.

Choose the right salutation and craft an introduction that gets you remembered

We advise you to address the cover letter directly to the person responsible for the recruitment process. If you don’t know their name, take some time to research it.

This will show that you’re attentive to detail and are willing to go the extra mile when necessary.

Here's a list of salutations you can never go wrong with. Note that some of them can be used even if you don’t know who the hiring manager is.

You’ve probably heard that many people out there have started using phrases like “I found your job advert on platform X and decided to apply”, right?

And what’s wrong with such phrases, you may ask. They’re outdated and they definitely won't make you stand out, to say the least.

So go for something different. Begin your cover letter by sharing your excitement about the company, the position, and even the field.

Emphasize your CFO soft skills and mention your hard skills

So what skills do you need to include? Well, unfortunately, there’s no one answer to this. It all depends on the job description and the skills you’ve currently got.

According to experts, what recruiters look for in cover letters is how you can link your soft skills to particular achievements and goals. So, try to figure out what has helped you on the way to success.

However, don’t forget about hard skills. Even if they’re not the focus of your happy story, you need to include at least the ones that were mentioned as part of the requirements section of the job posting. This will help you pass applicant tracking systems (ATS) that screen applicant documents for certain keywords and phrases.

Prove that you're familiar with the company

Adding a line or two about the company can help you prove your excitement and readiness to become a valuable team member.

You might also choose to link your previous work-related tasks and achievements to current industry or even company issues and how you think they can be resolved.

End with a call to action

Ending your cover letter in an actionable way is one of the things that increase your chances of getting a callback.

The conclusion is also your opportunity to thank the recruiter for their time and consideration, so don’t skip that.

Just make sure to go for an ending that matches the company culture and language. If you prefer to be on the safe side, choose traditional closing lines such as “Looking forward to your reply”.
