To The Human Resources Department,

I am so excited about the opportunity to apply for the Senior Designer position with your company, Design Pro. Throughout my life, I have pursued interior design with passion, and the skills I have acquired along the way make me an exceptional candidate for this job. I love putting my creativity to work to produce the best outcome for my clients regarding style and function. Thanks to my commitment to my art, I have secured a degree in interior architecture and accomplished many projects.

I have been honored to help design some of the most prolific interiors in town. I received my first project for six weeks in the summer of 2019. It was my task to map out the lobby of Downtown Bank on Deer Street and Maple. One year later, I was offered a position to help design the master suites of the Gold Roof Hotel, and that was the largest project I have worked on so far. It took six months to complete, and I finished two weeks early and under budget.

These experiences were demanding challenges that helped me grow into an artist who knows the industry's ins and outs. I have learned that an artistic eye is one small part of being a good designer. Not only have I had the opportunity to hone my communication skills and creative problem-solving, but I have also learned essential budgeting skills and time management. My flexibility and willingness to adapt made me resilient to hiccups and unforeseen circumstances.

I am impressed with how your company puts customer satisfaction first and reaches for the highest attainable goal wherever possible. I hope to be a part of your mission to bring fashion and function to people seeking sophisticated style in their homes. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Caitlin Miller

You probably know that cover letters complement resumes and that recruiters just love asking for them. But why are cover letters important?

Well, because they are your chance of telling a story.

And let’s face it – listing different skills and achievements on your resume is essential. But connecting the dots in your cover letter and explaining what’s helped you gain expertise will make you stand out.

Read our proven Interior Design cover letter tips and examples below.

Build a cover letter to be proud of:

Interior Designer resume example

At first, you may think that the cover letter should repeat all information from your resume but in a story-like form. However, that’s not true.

Instead of re-writing your resume, you need to focus on making the right impression.

You can do that by talking about the skills that help you overcome challenges, your excitement when it comes to the industry, your past achievements, and your knowledge of the company.

Now let’s look at some other things that will make your cover letter stand out.

We've made an in-depth guide on what should your cover letter include that you can check out!

Choose the right salutation and write a strong introduction

Choosing the right salutation for your cover letter is crucial – after all, it’s the first thing the hiring manager will read.

For this reason, we’ve gathered several classic salutations. Note that some of them could be used even if you don't know the hiring manager's name.

  • To the Human Resources Department
  • Dear [company name] Recruiter
  • Dear Angela Stone
  • To the Recruitment Team

You wonder what the key to good introductions is? (Moderate) Creativity!

You’ve probably heard that many people out there have started using phrases like “I found your job advert on platform X and decided to apply”, right?

And what’s wrong with such phrases, you may ask. They’re outdated and they definitely won't make you stand out, to say the least.

So go for something different. Begin your cover letter by sharing your excitement about the company, the position, and even the field.

Talk about your hard and soft skills

Listing hard skills on your resume is quite straightforward, isn’t it? But when it comes to writing a memorable Interior Design cover letter, you need to be a bit more creative.

The thing is, cover letters are designed to tell a story. To show the thought process behind your achievements and motivations. To put the recruiter in your shoes and allow them to get to know you better.

Maybe you want to share how you deal with challenges? Or what helps you reach your goals? It doesn’t really matter.

And while soft skills are important, hard skills shouldn’t be skipped either. Mentioning some hard skills (especially the ones listed by the recruiter) is always a great idea. This will help you pass applicant tracking systems (ATS) that screen documents for certain keywords.

Show that you did your research before applying

Adding a line or two about the company can help you prove your excitement and readiness to become a valuable team member.

You might also choose to link your previous work-related tasks and achievements to current industry or even company issues and how you think they can be resolved.

End on a positive note

Ending your Interior Design cover letter in a suitable way can help you land an interview. Why? Because strong endings portray applicants as considerate and, what’s even more important – passionate about the job.

Just make sure that your ending (just like your cover letter’s body) matches the company culture. If you prefer to be on the safe side, go for traditional closing lines such as “Looking forward to hearing from you”.
