Cover Letter
Dear Apple TV+ marketing team,

I am a collaborative, creative, and curious digital marketer with a strong video production background who has recently graduated with my MBA and concentrations in Management Leadership and Marketing & Brand Management. I believe my experience and personality make me a strong candidate to join your team.

Throughout most of my career, I've worked on small teams with limited resources, striving to exceed the client's expectations. Those teams required me to execute the entire process, from client onboarding to pre-production budgeting and scheduling and all the way to the finish line to produce a product that pushes creative boundaries and trends and fosters a positive long-term client relationship.

In my current position at the George Washington University, my client is the world-class Elliott School of International Affairs. I work with students, faculty, staff, leadership, and global representatives to create content to show the excellent education and research happening at the school. Since joining the Elliott School, I have been able to jump-start the web and social presence by managing the transition of the entire website (http://elliott.gwu.edu) to a modern, interactive platform that increased SEO and complied with current ADA standards, and managed the creation and curation of all social media platforms to engage the students and community with our #ElliottProud brand. Additionally, I brought my video production experience to transform the video content of the school, evolving the culture from producing 2-hour long footage of events for archival purposes, to short-form and marketable pieces that engage audiences and bring in students and research grants to sustain the school.

I grew up with Apple ingenuity at the forefront of my technology education. Writing my first typed school essays on a beautiful blue iMac G3, the Apple brand was imprinted in my mind as one that leads its competitors and inspires its audience. Just as the Apple brand symbolizes, I seek excellence, innovation, and pride in my work. I am eager to pursue this opportunity and I hope to hear from you soon to further discuss how I can be an asset to the marketing team.

Sincerely,
Darcy Delgado

According to 83% of hiring managers, cover letters are an important part of every recruiter’s decision-making process.

What’s more, 72% of them will expect you to hand in a great cover letter, even if this part is listed as ‘optional’ on the job advert.

And if you ask our experts, cover letters are an amazing opportunity to tell a personal story and make the right first impression.

But what exactly is a cover letter and how to write a good one? Let’s see…

Professional video producer cover letter tips to help you stand out

At first, you may think that the cover letter should repeat all information from your resume but in a story-like form. However, that’s not true.

Instead of re-writing your resume, you need to focus on making the right impression.

You can do that by talking about the skills that help you overcome challenges, your excitement when it comes to the industry, your past achievements, and your knowledge of the company.

Now let’s look at some other things that will make your cover letter stand out.

We've made an in-depth guide on what should your cover letter include that you can check out!

How to choose the most suitable salutation and make a good impression

Choosing the right salutation for your cover letter is crucial – after all, it’s the first thing the hiring manager will read.

For this reason, we’ve gathered several classic salutations. Note that some of them could be used even if you don't know the hiring manager's name.

  • Dear Mr. John
  • Dear Ms. Petersen
  • Dear Hiring Manager
  • Dear Dr. Todd
  • Dear Head of [team you're applying for]

The introduction of your cover letter is the first thing the hiring manager will read. Logically, having a strong introduction is your chance of getting their attention.

In order to do that, you need to get creative. Don’t just do what everyone else’s been doing for years, i.e. writing “I found this job opening on that website and decided to apply”.

Rather, show that you are genuinely excited about the position and the company. You could do that by mentioning your love for the industry or what you can bring to the table.

Combine your soft and hard skills for an unbeatable match!

Listing hard skills on your resume is quite straightforward, isn’t it? But when it comes to writing a memorable Video Producer cover letter, you need to be a bit more creative.

The thing is, cover letters are designed to tell a story. To show the thought process behind your achievements and motivations. To put the recruiter in your shoes and allow them to get to know you better.

Maybe you want to share how you deal with challenges? Or what helps you reach your goals? It doesn’t really matter.

And while soft skills are important, hard skills shouldn’t be skipped either. Mentioning some hard skills (especially the ones listed by the recruiter) is always a great idea. This will help you pass applicant tracking systems (ATS) that screen documents for certain keywords.

Prove your passion about the company

Every recruiter wants to know whether you’ve decided to apply because you’re familiar with the company or because their job advert was the first thing you saw this morning.

So – show that you’ve researched the company and are aware of its strengths, weaknesses, and potential problems.

In addition, you can also share how your Video Producer skills can add value to the team.

End in an actionable way

Ending your cover letter in an actionable way is one of the things that increase your chances of getting a callback.

The conclusion is also your opportunity to thank the recruiter for their time and consideration, so don’t skip that.

Just make sure to go for an ending that matches the company culture and language. If you prefer to be on the safe side, choose traditional closing lines such as “Looking forward to your reply”.
