COVER LETTER
October 31, 2019

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have developed this principle from my previous work experiences that "Never be hesitant to grab any learning opportunity as it can become the turning point in your life." Being part of Global Engineer Program offered by Electrolux is special for me as it will provide me  with a chance to showcase my skills at a bigger level and discover new dimensions of organizational work. The enriched norms and work culture that I will bring along with me will allow me to enhance the company's working environment and also play my part in bringing different cultures together for a better tomorrow.

The opportunity of working throughout my career in AIESEC has been amazing and life-changing for me. AIESEC helped me define a set of golden principles to live this life and gave me a position where I can stand out, make decisions and help myself grow disruptively. I have developed a work ethic based on empathy, commitment, and efficiency. My contribution towards making my entity more financially sustainable and developing young members is something I am very proud of. Having achieved the highest honor of AIESECer of the year has been one of my big achievements in AIESEC which speaks for my hard work and dedication towards my work.

Electrical Engineering is the degree that I chose by passion due to the recent technological advancements in the field and its scope in future industry. Working on various team projects regarding my degree, I have enhanced my critical thinking, problem-solving and pressure handling skills. I gained hands-on experience mainly in the fields of data structures, machine learning, Internet-of-things, circuit designing and control systems. I have a firm belief that there is always a space for improvement in one's personality and skills, and I have always been looking forward to adding more skills in my existing skillset. I am ambitious to solve social problems by creating a breakthrough using AI and Internet-of-Things.

Alongside Engineering, Project Management is an area where I have developed interest recently. My future study career is aligned with this field as I plan to do my Masters in Engineering Management. My recent experience of Project Management Internship in Technolera gave me a chance to pique my interest in this field as I did market analysis of different startups by working in a very diverse environment during my previous exchange experience. Apart from this, my other experiences mentioned in my resume have allowed me to become more versatile and dynamic through constant learning.

Being a part of different work cultures gave me a better understanding of how people communicate and thus, made me able to effectively build professional networks. I learned the importance of relationship management and empathy when volunteering in Rabtt by working with students and helping them resolve their issues. Moreover, my proactive approach and effective communication proved to be crucial in terms of managing my own tech-startup which aims to provide a cheap and convenient way for students to buy electronic components required for their projects.

The opportunity of learning and excelling in Electrolux is remarkable and I want to be a part of this organization's ultimate purpose which is "Shape Living for the Better". I am geared up to maintain the current high standards of AIESEC & Electrolux partnership and represent the true values of AIESEC so that Electrolux and AIESEC may form a strong society based upon trust and impact people's lifestyle by providing sustainable and unique solutions to the modern-day problems.

I am very eager to avail this opportunity and would be glad to explain my motivation and ambitions in a video interview.

Yours Sincerely,
Letitia Crane

Writing a Innovation Engineer cover letter might feel like skating on thin ice – choosing between buzzwords mentioned in the job description and original content, while worrying about making even the slightest mistake.

And what can make this experience a bit more fun and exciting? You guessed it. Relying on expert advice and examples.

Luckily, we have you covered. Check out our tips on writing a memorable cover letter below.

Professional innovation engineer cover letter tips to help you stand out

There are several things you need to do if you want to make your cover letter stand out.

First and foremost, make sure to stick to a tone of voice that is either formal and more on the traditional side or completely matches the company culture.

Second, make sure you’re not just re-writing your resume. Rather, build upon it.

And third, focus on achievements and motivations, rather than plainly listing your hard skills.

Now, if you want to stay on top of your cover letter game, we’ve got some additional tips for you.

Stand out with a strong introduction and an appropriate salutation

Addressing your cover letter to a specific person works in your favor for two reasons: it shows your attention to detail, and it proves that you’ve taken the time to research who the person might be.

However, sometimes this might be much more difficult than expected. On such occasions, we advise you to focus on salutations that go beyond the impersonal “To Whom It May Concern”.

Here’s a brief list of suitable phrases:

  • Dear [company name] Recruiter
  • Dear Mr./Ms. Smith
  • Dear Hiring Manager
  • To the [team you're applying for] Team

You wonder what the key to good introductions is? (Moderate) Creativity!

You’ve probably heard that many people out there have started using phrases like “I found your job advert on platform X and decided to apply”, right?

And what’s wrong with such phrases, you may ask. They’re outdated and they definitely won't make you stand out, to say the least.

So go for something different. Begin your cover letter by sharing your excitement about the company, the position, and even the field.

Don't skip on your Innovation Engineer soft and hard skills

Although you’ve probably listed all your skills on your resume, it’s worth mentioning them again, but by telling a personal story. Focusing on your soft skills and leaving most hard ones behind is also a good idea.

Maybe you want to mention the things that help you overcome setbacks? Or the things that help you reach your goals? It doesn’t really matter what you choose, as long as you link it back to the specific job requirements.

Naturally, if the job advert mentions some hard skills explicitly, you should do the same in your cover letter. This will help you pass applicant tracking systems (ATS) that screen resumes and cover letters for certain keywords.

Prove your passion about the company

Showing that you’ve researched the company and are excited to become part of its team is definitely one of the best ways to prove you're a strong candidate.

Recruiters want to make sure that you’re at least as passionate about the company and the industry as them.

It’s also a good idea to mention how your previous experience could help you in your work and what impact it could have on your long-term performance.

In addition, showing that you are aware of industry or even company issues and are not afraid of facing them will give you additional points!

Choose the right closing line

By now you’ve managed to make a good impression on the hiring manager, and it’s important not to ruin it. That’s why you need your ending to be just as great as your cover letter’s body.

But what are the things that make up a memorable closing line? Expressing gratitude for the reader’s time and consideration, and saying that you look forward to their reply, to name a couple.

You can stick to traditional phrases (e.g. Looking forward to hearing from you soon) if you wish to be on the safe side. Just make sure that the language you use matches the company culture.
