Enhanced Lives is a series which aims to put our customers in the spotlight. In a short interview, we ask about their background, the experience they had with Enhancv and how it helped to improve their career. Our tenth star is David, one of Enhancv’s youngest users who left us speechless after sharing his story. Even though he’s only 16 years old and without any (paid) work experience, he created a resume that’s 4 pages long and had employers fighting to get him on board. Hi David, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Hey, I’m David and I’m from Sofia. I study at Sofia High School of Mathematics and I graduated from Telerik Academy – one of the leading educational institutes for software engineers in Bulgaria. One of my biggest passions is Shotokan Karate, which I started to train when I was 6 years old. I won a bronze medal (together with a few others) on the world championship for Shotokan Karate at the age of 12. I also love writing and my creations were published across different media here in Bulgaria. I write about my other passions, our ecology, animals, history, education, and autism. For me, it’s important to mention that I don’t write to get awards, but rather to help make a positive change in my country and our environment. I also won an award called Astro Camp NASA, which I couldn’t attend because of a lack of financial resources. There is more, but you can view all that in my resume. 🙂 What was the reason you created your resume? A part of the course at Telerik Academy was a program ‘’Career Jumpstart’’ where we learned a lot about resume writing and interview process. There, Enhancv resume was used as an example. So I gave it a go and created my own. Despite still being a student, I guess my resume was perfectly written, as I started receiving job offers right away. I got a call from 6 companies and after interviewing with 2 of them, I canceled the rest just so I don’t make my decision even harder. 🙂 And I got my very first job! What do you like about Enhancv? Did you learn anything from it?"? What I like is that Enhancv resumes are not just a standard format, but a “4 in 1” combination. It’s because it includes elements resumes should include (Experience, Languages, Education), together with Tips & Examples (popping up throughout the process), special competencies (colors, backgrounds, icons), and you can also create a cover letter. It gives you freedom, it is multifunctional and one can get a pretty good idea about the person’s character and attitudes through small details Enhancv encourages you to include. I learned that even though I don’t have any work experience, I can still create an impactful resume (that’s on 4+ pages). So my very first resume turned out to be effective and of high quality, as many employers have considered it seriously. Although I am not actively looking for a job right now, I keep receiving job offers – only last week I got 5, one of which was from Germany. What message would you send to other job seekers out there? My message to the readers would be: don’t settle for a place you don’t like, fight for what you want and initiate a change right now, at this very moment… with a resume, for example. 🙂 Tomorrow you might be at my place, sharing your success story with the world. I would like to thank David for sharing his experience with us. It means a lot and we hope it will motivate many others to get started and upgrade to more personality oriented and performance-based resumes. If you’d like to contribute to Enhanced Lives series and share your achievements with others, send me a message. I look forward to hearing from you ?
Enhanced Lives is a series which aims to put our customers in the spotlight. In a short interview, we ask about their background, the experience they had with Enhancv and how it helped to improve their career. Our ninth star is Megan, an energetic Associate Project Manager and Yoga teacher. How did Enhancv help her find a dream job? Read on to find out! Hi Megan, can you tell us a bit about yourself? I’m from Nashville, Tennessee and lived there my whole life until attending school outside of Chattanooga. I am passionate about my relationships, teaching Yoga and caring for my body. My husband and I eat too many tacos and love our home church in Atlanta. 🙂 What was the reason you created your resume? I was looking to make a career change. I’d been in an advertising position for two years and wanted to take steps to move into more of a marketing role. I had been job searching for over a year. Looking at a number of agencies as well as trying to work the connections I had, but no such luck. Once switching to Enhancv, things started moving forward! Not only did I receive two job offers in the first few months, but a friend who is VP of his company said he wished that he would get resumes like mine from his applicants. What do you like about Enhancv? Did you learn anything from it? Well, I first love the layouts! So clean and professional but catches your eye. I also love that there are suggestions and examples as you write. That helped me a lot in how to word my job duties. It’s great that there’s ‘’someone’’ on the other side trying to get the best out of your words. I tried out the Content Analyzer feature, which kept reminding me to be more specific and show the impact I had in my previous roles. The content of my resume became much more powerful and appealing. What message would you send to other job seekers out there? First and foremost, make connections! Every job I’ve been offered thus far has been sparked solely by a connection I’d made previously. Who you know matters! Second, I think Enhancv does a fantastic job at giving you a step above the competition. The format alone grabs interest but the way they suggest you portray yourself and your work is unique. I do have to say that I’d been searching for a new job for over a year when I decided to switch out my resume format. Once changing to Enhancv, I was offered two jobs in the first 3 months. Can’t say that’s a coincidence 🙂 I would like to thank Megan for sharing her experience with us. It means a lot and we hope it will motivate many others to get started and upgrade to more personality oriented and performance-based resumes. If you’d like to contribute to Enhanced Lives series and share your achievements with others, send me a message. I look forward to hearing from you 🙂
Enhanced Lives is a series which aims to put our customers in the spotlight. In a short interview, we ask about their background, the experience they had with Enhancv and how it helped to improve their career. Our tenth star is Akshay, an ambitious young wannabe-entrepreneur. How did Enhancv help him find a dream internship at Tesla? Read on to find out! Hi, Akshay, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Hey, I’m Akshay and I’m originally from Mumbai, India. I completed my high school studies in Mumbai before deciding to pursue my undergraduate career in the US and live the American dream. 🙂 During my time here, I have not only discovered where my career interests lie but have also had the opportunity to experience it first hand at two of the leading companies in the world, one of them being United Technologies Corporation. My main interests lie in Supply Chain and Operations Management (SCM) and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), and I strive hard each day to make a successful career out of it, or maybe run my own company down the line (who knows?). At Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), I am a candidate in the Industrial Engineering program and will be graduating in December with a Bachelor of Science degree. On campus, I am a part of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the Student Government Association. Outside of school and work, I love watching American Football and playing European Football. What was the reason you created your resume? I wanted to apply for an internship at Tesla, Inc. As you can imagine, the competition is very high and hence I needed a resume that would put me in front of other applicants. I believe that Enhancv helped me do that. 🙂 Wow! How is working at Tesla?"? Working for Tesla has been an amazing yet challenging experience so far. The creative flexibility provided by management allows us to pursue relevant projects that we feel can bring about a change. Having such a direct impact on the production of cars is definitely something to be proud of. 🙂 Unfortunately, you have to be 23 to get a Tesla Model S or Model X experience, however, I did get a chance to ride one and I was left in complete awe! The self-driving function is smooth as silk and the 0-100 kmph in 2.28 seconds does not disappoint. Why did you choose Enhancv? I thought of stepping into the employer’s shoes for a moment and visualized how it would be to receive a stack full of resumes each day. I couldn’t decipher how the employer would be able to actually connect with the candidate if they are just presented with a blurb of words. I wanted to do more than just that. When I came across Enhancv, I was amazed by the template, the user interface, ease of accessibility around the website, and most importantly, the ability to have multiple resumes and customize each of them based on the job I am applying for. The fact that I could have a picture of me to connect with the employer was a perfect icing on the cake. For me, a picture is worth a thousand words and I am not only able to connect the laundry list of achievements to an actual face. The first reaction that came out of people’s mouth when they saw my new resume was that of confusion and excitement. Confused because they had never seen something like this before and excited for the same reason. What message would you send to other job seekers out there? The one piece of advice I’d like to give to my peers is: In today’s competitive world, you have to present yourself in a unique way to stand out. Create a specific resume for each job you’re applying for and be persistent. And try Enhancv – I am glad to have discovered it, it has helped me get to Tesla! I would like to thank Akshay for sharing his experience with us. It means a lot and we hope it will motivate many others to get started and upgrade to more personality oriented and performance-based resumes. If you’d like to contribute to Enhanced Lives series and share your achievements with others, send me a message. I look forward to hearing from you 🙂 Now this: Check out our resume examples section that got people hired at their dream jobs.
Enhanced Lives is a series which aims to put our customers in the spotlight. In a short interview, we ask about their background, the experience they had with Enhancv and how it helped to improve their career. Our seventh star is Robert, a motivated young professional, and fighter. He is part of 14% of the Autistic community who make it into a professional employment. How did Enhancv help him with that? Read on to find out! Hi Robert, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Hey, I’m from Manchester and have been working with software for some eight years. I’m passionate about AGILE, Tableau, traveling and photography. I have lived with a high functioning strand of Autism (PDD) my entire life. What was the reason you created your resume? I had become bored in the position I was working in for the Financial Conduct Authority. As a Technical Business Analyst, I wanted to get involved in driving a product vision as opposed to being part of the development team. All around me, I witnessed staff who had been doing the same job for 10+ years. They seemed tentative, trapped and bored. I was afraid I would end up like that. Also, I wanted to move to Product Ownership. That’s why I wanted to create a visually stimulating CV to sell myself better, get my foot through the door. What do you like about Enhancv? Did you learn anything from it?As an Autistic, creating a more visual resume with Enhancv in such a simple structure helped me to communicate my abilities clearer. Those who have my condition struggle to describe their talent, skills, and experience. We often prefer very visual methods of communication as this is often the way we are taught to communicate from childhood. For example, when I was young, I used emotion cards to show others how I feel as I would struggle to explain it. Enhancv’s icons (for example the Superman), types of sections, tips & examples and ability to change templates are therefore very suited to a person who has Autism. What message would you send to other job seekers out there? When it comes to searching for a role, having the right resume definitely helps getting from the searching phase into actually landing a job.The role of recruitment in the market has entirely changed. Historically, staff would stay employed in an organization for 10+ years and this would form their life. In today’s changing landscape, we have no choice but to move often and learn things along the way.My other advice to candidates seeking work is to apply for roles that resolve market gaps/opportunities as these are the most willing/open and offer the least comfort/challenge. Remember the STAR technique. Remember to be confident and if you make it to an interview, remember to ask the question ‘Did I cover everything you wanted to learn today?’I am now a Product Owner and over the last two months in the role, I have thought about Enhancv almost every day. It opened up new ways of showcasing my professional experience and personality. And that brought happiness into my life.I would like to thank Robert for sharing his experience with us. It means a lot and we hope it will motivate many others to get started and upgrade to more human-centric and performance-based resumes. If you’d like to contribute to Enhanced Lives series and share your achievements with others, send me a message. In a short interview, we ask about their background, the experience they had with Enhancv and how it helped to improve their career. Our sixth star is Joshua, a passionate entrepreneur and risk taker who found his dream position as a sales account manager in an innovative Startup. How did Enhancv help him with that? Read on to find out! Hi Joshua, can you tell us a bit about yourself? I’m a fairly young professional but have had an exciting journey up to this point. I’ve been extremely fortunate to successfully challenge the value of education vs. true application. i.e. Graduating HS at 16 in Virginia, went straight to college in Minnesota but decided to go apply my knowledge as an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Air Force. After serving I took my passion for technology and web development to a startup in the Pacific Northwest where I was a top-performing Solutions (Sales) Engineer at 21. It was there I was able to found and begin development of my startup Wistly — an SMS, AI-based personal assistant to build healthy habits. We’re in the process of applying to incubator programs and seeking Seed funding. After a pretty adventurous start to life, my wife and I decided we wanted to plant our roots closer to the family; deciding to build a house out here near Jacksonville, Florida with high hopes we could find career continuation to support it. In Florida, I secured my new position within 45 days thanks to my awesome resume with Enhancv. I’m now an Account Manager at an innovative startup called OpenNest which works on really large initiatives and projects to build strategic growth with a 10x mindset. We’re working with brands like Summit Powder Mountain. What was the reason you created your resume?I needed it for new job applications. My old one was in Word and slightly design-focused. I wanted to revamp and spruce it up.What do you like about Enhancv? Did you learn anything from it?Enhancv’s UI is ridiculously easy and flexible. It’s the only tool online that gives a “millennial-worthy” resume without the cheap, non-applicable “templates.” The balance between style, content, and function is just stunning. I’ve been on many hiring committees and an Enhancv resume will always catch my eye. It’s clean and minimal.I learned that changing the visuals (i.e. the skills section on my resume) creates a really clean effect that nicely breaks up the text flow. I also enjoyed the Projects section. It’s a really nice way for a startup entrepreneur, like myself, to disclose my ownership & interest in a professional, non-confrontational way. What message would you send to other job seekers out there?"?I think my advice would be best geared towards young professionals. As education curriculum gets pushed further & further down the ranks, a graduates degree becomes increasingly more popular, and decreasingly valuable. Due to this, many employers (especially those in the startup world) are becoming hyper-focused on the application, the ability to grind, and culture fit.10 years ago having education on your resume was how you opened the door. Today, it’s merely an afterthought. Many of the committees I’ve sat on never considered it at all (there’s clearly an exception to everything—hard to be a scientist without a degree).Long story short, find different ways to stand out and truly be an expert in your field. Enhancv will get you the call, it’s your job to blow them away with your story.I would like to thank Joshua for sharing his experience with us.
