AWS is also the most profitable department at Amazon, accounting for over 60% of their income.

Andy conceived the idea for a centralized web services space for Amazon’s developers while acting as Jeff Bezos’ technical assistant. It began as a startup within the company back in 2003, and it wasn’t long before the technology was outsourced to external clients. AWS propelled the success of other now-famous startups like AirBnB, Uber Technologies, Zoom, Slack & Twitch.

It would have been interesting to see what Andy Jassy’s genius would have brought today to the music industry if he stayed in it longer. However, his early professional career was heavily influenced by music, as he was a band manager, and later on, joined Amazon with the purpose to work on expanding their CD collection.
